Overview

MyTel U Mobile transforms how Telkom University students and staff access campus services. By consolidating academic information, communications, and essential tools into one intuitive app, we eliminated the frustration of navigating multiple systems and created a seamless digital campus experience.

The Challange

Telkom University's digital ecosystem was fragmented. Students juggled multiple platforms for basic tasks like checking schedules, viewing grades, and reading announcements. This created unnecessary friction in their daily academic routine and led to missed important information.

Login Experience

The Problem

New users couldn't log in because they didn't know which credentials to use. Without clear guidance, many students gave up during their first attempt, creating a significant barrier to app adoption.

The Problem

Students couldn't locate essential features like attendance tracking because menu items were randomly organized with inconsistent icons and unclear labels.

Inconsistent visual design made scanning difficult

We restructured the homepage around student workflows and daily needs.

Logical feature grouping: Academic, Administrative, and Communication sections

Visual hierarchy: Most-used features prominently displayed

Consistent iconography: Custom icon set following Material Design principles

Quick access bar: Direct shortcuts to attendance, grades, and schedule

Streamlined bottom navigation: Core functions always accessible

Icons system details:

Created 24dp icon set with 2dp padding for optimal touch targets

Two-tone style for better readability and modern aesthetic

Consistent spacing and typography throughout

Students missed critical announcements because they couldn't distinguish between new and old messages, and lengthy text made it hard to quickly scan for relevance

Structured message preview: Date, sender, subject, and snippet for quick scanning

Dedicated detail view: Clean, focused reading experience for full messages

Reflection

This project substantially reinforced the importance of understanding user context deeply. University students have unique needs - they're often rushing between classes, checking information on-the-go, and dealing with high-stakes academic deadlines. Our design effectively addressed these constraints while delivering reliable, fast access to critical information.

The success of MyTel U dramatically demonstrates that exceptional UX isn't just about making things visually appealing -it's about systematically removing friction from people's daily routines and successfully empowering them to accomplish their goals with confidence and efficiency.
